Earlier this week here in the Township where I live and pay school taxes,a non student called in a bomb threat to the high school Thu the local 911 system.
The caller related that he had planted six pipe bombs around the school campus and threaten to shoot anyone who tried to remove them.
This call was made just as students started to arrive for the day of school,needless to say panic set in and there was no emergency plan to implement for this situation.
I have related before in several posts about the makeup of the political system here in this township.
The population is 75% or more African-American,needless to say the power lies in the hands of white folk.
Too many black folk in this township have George Jefferson disease(moving on up to the East side).
Instead of sending students away from potential danger they were all haul into the training center for athletes.
Needless to say fights and stupidity rein among the students,as usually the townships gestapo arrive to cage what they perceived as animals.
Now as Black parents arrive to rescue their children from this chaos they find the police and school officials not responding to their demands for accountability.
To me this is a classic case of not being involved with the politics of this township,if Black folks put as much effort and heart into the function of this township and school system as they do supporting the Steele rs football team,they may not have had the response they got from the powers that be.

This school district does not have an emergency evacuation plan? Why?
After the 9/11 attacks, that was the priority of our district. Even our childcare system has an emergency plan to remove children from potential danger.
The situation is the "wake-up and smell the coffee moment", that Ann Landers use to write about. What does it take for people to realize that schools are public domains. There are people out there who have no problem with creating confusion and chaos in schools. Does the name Columbine mean anything to these people?
It would be a hot time in the next school board and city council meeting. Especially since it is obvious that the admin staff of the schools are not prepared to protect the children in a sane manner.

I totally agree with you, Big Mac. So many of us, don't want to get involved in the politics of the local government because the mentality is: community and home is just a place to lay our head, we don't bother to take the time to get to know our neighbors, let alone, our local community leaders and officials. And it's almost unheard of to get involved in the school district where our children go.
Until we get serious about our children, their education, and the community where we live we will continue to experience what happen earlier this week.
The powers that be, understand,and play on us not getting invloved and give us the bare minimum, because we settle for it. Yet when we, experience the bare minimum, we want to blame the establishment, instead of making them accountable.

But on 2/14/11(next school board meeting) a day love supposedly,I will show mine for the folks of this township who have no spine!

The problem is even broader than you state, Bigmac. The problem is that the masses generally (regardless of race) will vote for people who don't have their perspective or interests. Workers will vote for business owners and professionals instead of people in their own class. The voters will justify it by saying they're voting for the "best qualified" candidates, but who is better qualified to represent you than someone who understands you because she or he is one of you?
In Canada, there was a great politician (and Kiefer Sutherland's grandpa, BTW) named Tommy Douglas, whose accomplishments included the country's first 'socialized medicine' program. He liked to tell the story of Mouseland, where the mice continuously elected cats to govern them. Sometimes they'd elected white cats, sometimes black cats. But always cats, and the cats never had a mouse's interests at heart. That's what your political system and mine are like.

There must be some thing in us, a lack of trust, an inbred suspicion when it comes to authority figures. While some of that might be earned or anecdotal, it's not the best way roll in this society, simply because information is knowledge and knowledge is power.

Yes, I was going to ask about the emergency evacuation procedure and it looks like it has already been mentioned.
So, what if this was a fire for example, there was no fire emergency plan, which could be used instead?
This is what you get when numbskulls are in charge. People who would add value to an organisation and come up with good contingency plans are rarely put in charge, instead some idiot(s), who haven't got a clue are put in charge to run things.
Also, it is up to the teachers and staff at the school to keep the students in check, but if they haven't got a clue, what do you expect from the youngsters?
