Memorial Day-2012

So here we are celebrating  another holiday  here in the "HOOD"not knowing why we are truly celebrating.
In a very unscientific poll conducted among some of my co-workers and associates, most had not a clue of the origins or meaning of"Memorial Day".
Many will be cooking out with friends ,family and partying like it's 1999,I'm not a party pooper nor am I against having fun.
But let's party with a purpose, lets use this time together to reconnect with our families and friends and rebuild relationships.
Lets use this time to visit our ancestors who we seem to forget as soon as they are in the ground, lets reconnect with their spirit and be a stronger people!
                                                                                           Big Mac!

It's truly sad that some people, especially, grown-azz supposedly educated ADULTS don't know the origins of this day. Sad that Madison Ave has whored it out for fun & profit.

One.

It is sad, seems to me many folk have closed their minds to this fact that we all are being pimped for the wrong reasons!

Moanerplicity is on point. Before the barbecues, I commemorated the day by thinking about our veterans and my grandparents who are all deceased.
Thanks for bringing this to our attention

Yeah man it is amazing the shit people do just because it has always been done. It still makes me laugh every year when people here in Texas are ecstatic about partying for "juneteenth." I'm like really son? Really? You are celebrating the fact that your relatives were still slaves for two years after slavery as abolished just because the slave owners didn't care enough about their black asses to tell them they were free? They had to be forced to relay that pertinent information. And this is a cause for celebration?

Wow....

Yeah it's sad that most don't know the origins of the holiday.....still, I rarely cookout on this day. As a matter of fact, this year I didn't work for the first time in years on this holiday.
