Celebrating Black History Amidst The Chaos!

Yep my friends it's that time of the year again when we celebrate and lionize the great black men and women of our past.
So we continue to ignore the 800 pound gorilla in our homes and communities, according to research by the State University of New York in 1950 78% of black families were two parent families, today that percentage is 38%.
We all know the long term benefits of a stable two parent household  for children, particular young black males.
Celebrate, celebrate what,14,15 year old girls having babies fathered by 30 year old men, celebrate the wanton killing daily in our communities for no godly reason!
I think I'll just skip Black History Month this year!

These are staggering statistics, so sad. You should still celebrate Black History Month though. Inspite of all the bad things, we have progressed in some areas:)

I agree with you Toyin to a point,we have made some steps forward, but from my front porch each step forward seems to have taken many backwards two steps, simply because we never understood these newfound freedoms.

Bigmac, I hear you. But I want to celebrate it, not for those who, by their actions, have dishonored our civil rights legacy, but for those who fought and died to make that legacy possible.

Yet, stay true to your own feelings. In your own way you're elevating that legacy through your inaction, an inaction that says essentially, there's still work to be done, and we should be about strengthening the legacy, and in so doing, create a legacy of our own.

Mac,

Our story has so many different aspects to it. This whole situation is difficult to take, I will give you that.

But, we need to also encourage those young people who aren't caught up in this syndrome. We also need to teach ourselves and others about who we are as a people.

BD:Thank you for your spot on analysis of my post.
It gets disheartening for me to continue to see so many people who travel roads littered with pot holes, that have large warning signs prominently displayed!

Msdeb:What so many of our folk fail to grasp is our commonality in our daily living,so many people choose to just fly around the cloud of chaos.
